Product name: Flexible Video endoscope
Trade name: USB Flexocam 4
Product Specifications: I describe a flexible video endoscope made up of a video camera with LEDs at the tip with electrical wires a holder containing analogue to digital converter circuit and a male USB pin as output. It is a lightweight device which is 3 in 1 in the nature and is a unique merger of a fiber optic bundle, LED light source and endo-camera of conventional flexible endoscopes and with excellent picture quality due to the “Chip on Tip” technology.
Detailed description: The flexible video endoscope is a 3 in 1 device which has a video camera (figure:1A,1 and figure:2A,1) with LEDs (figure:1A,2 and figure:2A,2) at the tip with electrical wires a holder containing analogue to digital converter circuit and a male USB pin as output. Normally, endoscopes have a telescope with rod lens system, an external light source and end camera that fits at the back end which converts images to the digital form. My device incorporates all 3 of them into a single assembly. Hence, I have labelled it as a 3 in one device.

The tip of video camera with LEDs is covered with a glass and the tip of the device is water-proof. The video signal from the camera is carried by a bunch wire bundle as a single core sheath (figure:1B,4 and figure:2B,4) and is connected to the analogue to digital converter circuit (figure:1B,5 and figure:2B,5) placed in a holder (figure:2B,6) The wire of the camera is flexible and water proof in nature. The output of this circuit is given to the male USB pin (figure:1B,6 and figure:2B,7) which is placed at the back end of the holder. A USB wire connects the device to variety of devices such as desktop, laptop, android mobile phones and android based tabs. The device comes with software which needs to be installed on the display devices to see and records the images and the video. The device is reusable and can be sterilized by putting in Formalin chamber for 30 minutes or by Ethylene Oxide gas.

The advantages of the device over the prior arts are as follows: It is a compact and lightweight device which is 3 in 1 in the nature and is a unique merger of a Telescope, light source and endo-camera. Flexible video endoscope solves following technical problems compared to previous endoscopes, making it superior, compact and easy to use. As said above, Normally, endoscopes have a telescope with rod lens system or fiber optic vision bundle, an external light source and endo camera that fits at the back end which converts images to the digital form. That makes endoscopes very costly, requiring external LED light source and endo camera at the back. There is an image loss due to the rod lenses and the picture quality is poor. In my device, the picture quality is excellent due to the “Chip on Tip” technology and there is no image loss as in conventional instrument. My device is commercialized at a reasonable cost of Rs.25,000 compared to Rs. 6 Lakhs of the conventional equipment. My device has a USB output and connects by a USB cable to a variety of devices such as desktop, laptop, android mobile phones and android based tabs and with a software which needs to be installed on the display devices to see and records the images and the video. Conventional endoscopes lack this feature.

Intended application: The instrument can perform a variety of diagnostic procedures such as diagnostic esophagoscopy for strictures, foreign bodies, diagnostic bronchoscopies, diagnostic laparoscopy, fistuloscopy, angioscopy, choledochectomy, etc. In anaesthesiology, it can be fixed to any laryngoscopy blade and thus becomes a video laryngoscope. It can be passed through endobronchial tube and tracheostomy tubes to look for any blocks. It can be used to precisely place endobronchial tubes, just distal to carina. It can be used for guiding endobronchial tube visually for single lung anesthesia. It can be used for video assisted nasal intubations.
Method of using device: The device is sterilized by Ethylene Oxide gas. It is connected by a sterilized USB cable to the display devises. The USB pin powers the camera and LEDs, and image is displayed on display devises. A software installed on the display devises can record still images and video on the hard drive.
