Detailed description: Complete specifications of the USB Video Otoscope is as follows: It is a device with a “Chip on Tip” technology where a video camera with LEDs is fixed at the tip of the endoscope. The Device is made up of a video camera with LEDs fixed in a tube as the body, a holder with USB output and a loop attachment for ear wax removal.

The device has a body made up the main tube (figure:1B,5 and figure:3B,6) with a narrow front part (figure:2A,3) and a broader back part (figure:1B,5 and figure:3B,6) This tube is fixed in a cylindrical holder (figure:1B,6 and figure:3B,7) attached at the backend of the device.

A video camera (figure:1A,1 figure:3A,1 and figure:3B,3) fixed at the tip of the device with LEDs (figure:1A,2 figure:3A,2) for illumination. Electrical wires (figure:3B,4) come out from the front camera and pass through the main tube and are supplied to a USB pin (figure:1B,7 and figure:3B,8) attached in the holder at its back end.

The device has a USB output and a USB wire connects the device to variety of devices such as desktop, laptop, android mobile phones and android based tabs and the device comes with software which needs to be installed on the display devices to see and record the images and the video.

The device is reusable and is sterilized by putting in Formalin chamber for 30 minutes or by Ethylene Oxide gas. The device is commercialized at a reasonable cost of Rs.15,000.

Intended application: The Otoscope is useful for the diagnosis of various ear conditions such as examination of ear drum, aural pruritus, ear pain, erythema, swelling, malodour, or excess ear discharge. It is also useful for removal of ear wax, taking biopsies of suspicious lesions, etc.

Method of using device: The device is sterilized by Ethylene Oxide gas. It is connected by a sterilized USB cable to the display devises. The USB pin powers the camera and LEDs, and image is displayed on display devises. A software installed on the display devises can record still images and video on the hard drive.
